Good news story from Bury Job Centre… Recently sent to local job centres and members of Parliament

Amanda was on “Light Touch” Universal Credit benefit as she works Saturday and Sunday at the local hospital. She desperately needed to work more hours as it became harder for her to cope with her bills and she was scared that at the age of 53 she would find it difficult to get another job. She approached Bury Jobcentre Plus for assistance as she needed a new CV to enable her to increase her income. An appointment was made for her to see the National Careers Service lady, Sue Fallon, who drafted a brand new CV for her.

Whilst going through the details with Sue, Don Atkinson approached to see if he could offer any help. Learning of Amanda’s desperate need of help finding a job he called one of his local employer contacts. As it happened they were looking for someone to work Monday to Friday part time doing 15 hours per week.

An interview was set up immediately with SCCL Ltd in the Jobcentre for the following week.

Kelly who interviewed Amanda was very impressed and offered her the job straightaway.

Amanda couldn’t believe her luck and was over the moon with the instant result that the Jobcentre had facilitated.

She is now looking forward to staying with her weekend work with the NHS and her new employer. Amanda starts work on the 23rd of June with SCCL.

Quotes:

Kelly from SCCL – “ When Don called me it was almost spooky ! We had previously taken on one of Dons other DWP Customers back in October of last year and had decided to promote her into a supervisory role. This meant that we needed a new person who could take over her cleaning contracts. Dons call was perfectly timed. When I interviewed Amanda I couldn’t believe how perfect she was for us at SCCL and after interviewing her I offered her the job on the spot. Perfect timing from the Jobcentre and they never let us down !”

Amanda – “When Don set up the interview I was a little nervous as I desperately needed the extra money and didn’t want to let him down. When I arrived at the jobcentre Don came to meet me. He immediately put me at ease and explained more about the employer and how much they were looking forward to meet with me.

The interview with Kelly couldn’t have gone better and when she offered me the job I was literally close to tears with the relief I felt about getting the extra hours (Almost double what I have with the NHS) and I can’t thank the Jobcentre enough for the help they have given me and the difference this is going to make to my life.”

Don – “Working collaboratively with Work Coaches and the important help from Sue from the National Careers Service gives all Employer Advisors the ability to enhance the DWPs reputation with Employers, showing them we have the capacity to match the right customers to the employers needs. This is certainly a great example of DWP Team Work in action”
